Arches 01 Design
Columns and arches inspired by the Palazzo Balbi Senarega, University of Genoa. The background is pure fantasy. The arches and column are 3D model material, and the fabric version includes the scenic background.
I spent a bit of extra time on this - making different parts and pieces - the pedestal for the column, the capitals, and the base - and then re-making them, trying a different way. About three times for each part. And each time doing it better and more efficiently. I think I have finally figured out the best way to make a rounded shape with profile and it is way simpler than I expected. Swipe to see - last image in set.
I also subtracted a white mask of the columns/arches from the ambient occlusion node - and that removed them from the design - I exported jpgs but should have exported pngs - I expect it would have been transparent. But it fixed the shade/shadow problem of shadows showing up on what is supposed to be a distance background, not an immediately behind the columns wall surface.
I rendered the architectural part with Photoshop. Then made the background in a separate Substance file - and put the rendered image from Ps on top of that (masked out the black). So the 3Dcube shown here is only the architectural part.
Lots of playing and experimenting here. The scenic background is just for fun - and to explore the extent that one can “draw” or “paint” with Substance.
