Pompadour - Flowers inspired by the chair
For this design, I explored blending a small palette of colors to create the final colors. Best guess hex digital colors for: lead white, cadmium yellow medium, vermilion, Prussian blue, and ivory black. I had no trouble mixing colors (I used to paint, so nothing new for me). Substance Designer has more ways to blend colors than real-life painting - you can try all the options on the blend node - use the opacity slider to actually “mix” the colors.
I felt a little silly going to the trouble of mixing my colors, but I’m super happy with the result - and will do this again. I think I got more natural looking color, more variation in the final colors, and colors that go together. (Previous designs, I picked colors and hoped they looked good together. By using a limited palette, you get a cohesive color set by default.)
This design was inspired by Delatour’s painting “Portrait of the Marquise Pompadour” (1755).
